Internationales Linktreffen: Besuch aus Liverpool

Nachdem unser Club im September 2022 nach Großbritannien gereist ist, kam Ende Mai 2024 eine 20köpfige Delegation unseres langjährigen Friendship Links SI Liverpool zu einem Gegenbesuch in die Domstadt. Die strengen Pass- und Zollkontrollen bei der Ein- und Ausreise konnten die gute Stimmung nicht trüben. Beim abendlichen Treffen im Hause unserer Präsidentin Julia Garnatz wurden langjährige Freundschaften vertieft und neue Kontakte geknüpft. Beim Empfang im Rathaus freute sich Oberbürgermeisterin Henriette Reker, SI Kolumba, über die Gäste aus Kölns Partnerstadt Liverpool und dankte beiden Clubs für ihr langjähriges Engagement für Frauen und Mädchen. Gemeinsam genießen konnten wir anschließend drei Kölner Ks: Kathedrale, Kunst und Konditorei. Den Abschluss und Höhepunkt des Programms bildete der Besuch im Handwerkerinnenhaus Köln e.V., einem der Projekte unseres Clubs. Diese Einrichtung bietet seit 35 Jahren jungen Mädchen durch praktische Arbeit in der Werkstatt die Chance, neue Fähigkeiten bei sich zu entdecken und selbstbestimmt tätig zu sein. Wir selbst durften dort unsere handwerklichen Potentiale unter Beweis stellen und Dom-Lichter herstellen. Fröhlich, beschwingt und bereichert nahmen wir Abschied bis zu unserem nächsten Treffen, dem 100. Clubjubiläum von SI Liverpool in 2027.

Besonders berührend der Dankesbrief aus Liverpool:

On behalf of President Rosemary and SI Liverpool Club members, I just want to convey our sincere and huge thanks to all the members of SI Cologne for organising a wonderful weekend of friendship,
discovery, food and fun.  Everything was so well organised for us and we can’t thank you enough for that.  The Rickshaw rides were so much fun.  

The reception at President Julia’s home was a lovely opportunity to meet old friends and members of your Club and get to know each other as our weekend began. 
We were all delighted with our gift bags and again, thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness of their contents.  

It was a privilege to be invited to Cologne City Hall on Saturday and meet with Henriette Reker and her staff and be shown around the beautiful building and learn more about it’s history and purpose.  
Our guided tour around the Cathedral was most enjoyable, even if some of us had visited it before, we still learned more about it’s history and art work from our very knowledgeable and sometimes amusing tour guide. 

Coffee and cake at Café Eigel was most welcome and enjoyable and again, gave us time to chat before some members of our group moved on to the Wallraf-Richartz museum was amazing. 

Our evening meal at the Oasis restaurant, overlooking the city, was plentiful and delicious, we all said how lovely it was that so many of your Club members and their partners were there to join us and the evening sunset was absolutely stunning, we were so lucky to witness such a lovely sight. 

Our visit to Handwerkerinnenhaus was very interesting and informative and it was good to meet Myriam and Andrea and learn of their work with the social project and how they help and support the girls who attend. 
We had great fun making our Cathedral lights. 

So, once again, our sincere thanks for a wonderful weekend and we are looking forward to seeing some of you again for our centenary year in 2027.
